Meatloaf: It’s whats for dinner and Michael “Marvin” Lee Aday (aka Meatloaf) is serving us up a heaping plate of his latest recipe. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from Meatloaf. He’s put out a few albums in recent years but nothing comes close to his Bat Out Of Hell album. That was a true masterpiece and hard to beat.
I don’t think Meatloaf has too much to worry about with his unique sound, he shouldn’t have to compete with the more current artists but the generation of today might not get it. Plus he’s not exactly the hottest dude to watch on MTV. I always think of The Rocky Horror Picture Show when it comes to Meatloaf. Remember Frank N Furter slicing Eddie up for dinner? Brilliant.
Meatloaf’s new album will be called Hang Cool Teddy Bear and ever the story teller, Meatloaf weaves tales of a “mysterious military man” into his songs. Meatloaf said:
“It’s the story of a soldier. He’s been in battle and he’s lying face down on the ground. He can’t move, but he turns his head and starts to see blood run across the ground, and so he thinks he’s going to die.
“They always say you see your life flash backward when you’re about to die. But his life flashes forward – into what possibly could happen. He sees what his life could be: the good and the bad.
“The songs are the different scenarios he finds himself in. It’s not always the same time or the same place, but it’s always the same woman. But I don’t want to give too much away. I want people to work it out for themselves.”
An album that tells a story? That sounds pretty cool, actually. Kind of like Pink Floyd’s The Wall meets Alice Cooper’s Goes To Hell. I’ll check it out for sure.
