Sean Hayes has revealed the not so shocking revelation that yup, he’s gay. He played a gay dude role for years on Will & Grace and he played it well. Life imitates art.
Sean spilled the beans in a recent interview with Advocate:
“When I play a gay character I want to be as believable as possible. And when I’m playing a straight character I also want to be as believable as possible. So the less that people know about my personal life, the more believable I can be as a character.”
He went on to say:
“I am who I am. I was never in, as they say. Never… Why would you go down that path with somebody who’s done so much to contribute to the gay community? That was my beef about it. What more do you want me to do? Do you want me to stand on a float? And then what? It’s never enough.”
Years ago if an actor came out of the closet his career was over. No one could see a gay guy as a leading ladies man. Rupert Everett had this problem but still managed to land a few good roles. Everett explained the politics of being an openly gay man in Hollywood:
The fact is that you could not be, and still cannot be, a 25-year-old homosexual trying to make it in the British film business or the American film business or even the Italian film business. It just doesn’t work and you’re going to hit a brick wall at some point. You’re going to manage to make it roll for a certain amount of time, but at the first sign of failure they’ll cut you right off.
It has worked out nicely for Neil Patrick Harris who recently came out as gay and his career has never been hotter, Maybe the tide is finally turning.
Yesterday we got a glimpse into Lindsay Lohan’s scatter brained head as she talked about her Daddy and her drug abuse. Today we get all the details about her lesbian romps with ex-gal pal Samantha Ronson. Lindsay tells the interviewer that she was “surprised” at her relationship with Ronson. I’d be surprised too if I found myself in bed with another woman. Well, maybe surprised isn’t the word for it.
Lohan tells us:
“I never really thought about women before, it kind of just happened with Samantha. It surprised me. We’re still in touch. We live in the same apartment building in LA and see each other often. She has always been one of my best friends.
“If I wasn’t with Samantha, I would probably be with a boy next. She’s the only woman I’ve been attracted to.
“We love each other. We might reconcile the relationship, maybe. I don’t know.”
As with most of what Lindsay says, I don’t believe it. Being gay is not a “when in Rome” type of thing. Either you are true to yourself or you live a lie. I don’t think you can turn it on and off like Lindsay claims she is able to do. The gay thing? Maybe a lot of people give it the old college try once and find it’s not for them. But to have an entire relationship with the same sex partner? Well, that’s gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Elton John loves to piss people off and here he goes again. His latest foray into controversy is his statement that Jesus was gay. Elton told Parade magazine:
“I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving.”
Hey anything is possible, right? I don’t know… the whole Bible thing is a bit far fetched for me to grasp. Call me a heathen but I am just not down with Jesus. The whole water to wine, walking on water, parting the sea, coming back from the dead? I guess I am just a Catholic school girl gone bad. Or good, depends on how you look at it.
